Couples Counseling

Almost all couples go through periods of conflict or frustration in their relationships. Infrequent ups and downs in relationships are normal so long as there is an ability to recover and grow from conflict. However, when there are frequent conflicts, poor or no resolution, and persistent anger or resentment of your partner, then counseling can be a beneficial tool to get back on track.  Couples counseling explores relationship challenges, conflicts, and communication breakdowns within the relationship.  The goal of couples counseling is to improve communication, identify reoccurring conflicts, have better understanding of your partner’s viewpoint and finding a way to make meaningful and positive connections.  The counseling process involves introducing problem solving skills and strategies, overcoming differences and learning how to resolve conflict as a team.  Signs of distress in a relationship include:

  • Persistent conflict (yelling or passive-aggressive behavior)
  • No resolution to conflict (the same argument reoccurring)
  • Withholding information from your partner to avoid conflict
  • Infidelity
  • Lack of trust
  • Poor communication/feeling like you are not heard by your partner
  • Threats or ultimatums about ending the relationship during conflict
