About LaVetta

LaVetta Mitchell, MA, LPC

Throughout life’s journey, our experiences shape and mold our beliefs and understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Often, we can seamlessly integrate these experiences into a deeper sense of self and navigate life more effectively. However, there are moments when we encounter challenges that disrupt our self-confidence and sense of security, leaving us feeling adrift and powerless. Choosing to embark on the therapeutic journey can be a profound step towards self-care and resilience in the face of these difficult moments.

LaVetta understands that building a trusting relationship with the therapist is the essential first step in this therapeutic journey. By immersing herself in the client’s world and gaining a profound understanding of their belief system, strengths, and expectations, LaVetta fosters this relationship. It is through this secure bond that clients can safely explore the experiences that have derailed them or the painful aspects of themselves. As a result, these challenging experiences can be confronted and integrated into the fabric of their lives, becoming powerful catalysts for personal change and resilience.

LaVetta’s therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy and tailored to each individual’s needs. She provides unwavering support and understanding as clients work towards identifying and developing a plan to achieve their personal goals. Drawing from a range of research-based modalities, including Client-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), LaVetta challenges negative or distorted patterns of thought that hinder progress.

With a deep passion for helping clients, students, and families reach their full potential, LaVetta brings a wealth of experience to her practice. She has worked in vocational and substance abuse counseling, case management, coaching, and as a corrections officer. These diverse experiences, combined with her personal life journey, enable LaVetta to connect with and understand her clients’ perspectives on life. Ultimately, she believes that choosing to begin the counseling process is a testament to one’s inner strength and the acknowledgment that support and guidance are deserved in overcoming life’s challenges.
