Stefanie Schanaberger, MA, LCPC
Life is full of uncertainty and change. Many people struggle to cope with change, as it heightens feelings of anxiety, frustration, and self-doubt. While change may disrupt the predictable flow of our daily lives, it also affords us an opportunity to reevaluate our lives and create a better path. For some, the problem may actually be the lack of change: they feel “stuck” in their lives and feel powerless to move forward. Through self-reflection and therapeutic dialogue, people can find meaning in their distress, cope with life’s challenges, and discover ways to build the life they want.
The goal of therapy is to build a stronger sense of self and promote congruency between one’s behavior, values, goals, and self-concept. Every client has their own personal roadmap to healing and growth. Stefanie collaborates with clients to understand their true desires, uncover their strengths, identify barriers to change, and integrate their most authentic self. By partnering with clients to explore their unique life stories with genuine curiosity and acceptance, clients are able to gain new perspectives, learn effective coping skills, and implement positive change.
Stefanie specializes in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, mood instability, trauma, eating disorders, relationship conflict, life transitions, and related challenges. She has over 10 years of experience counseling clients in a broad range of settings including private practice, community mental health, domestic violence shelters, and hospitals. Stefanie is trained in a wide array of therapeutic methods, including cognitive behavioral, internal family systems, solution-focused, and psychodynamic theories. Stefanie does not believe there’s a “one size fits all” model for therapy, and therefore carefully selects techniques to match the unique needs of each client.
Described by her clients as compassionate, intuitive, and sensitive, Stefanie offers a safe and accepting environment for clients to share their innermost thoughts and feelings. Stefanie builds strong, trusting relationships with clients that promote openness, honesty, and increased self-awareness. Stefanie empowers clients to feel more in control of their lives by instilling hope, enhancing self-worth, and reducing emotional vulnerability. She encourages introspection and self-reflection, offering her own insights and interpretations to guide clients in overcoming their obstacles and determining their new life path. Stefanie considers it a privilege to work with each new client and be a part of their recovery and healing.
